Important Announcements for 2008:
New Course Offering & Changes
-NEW ADULT Group Lessons offered in the afternoons. This group is open to students 16 and older. NOW IN 1 WEEK SESSIONS!
-Intro is now “Sailing Camp” and offered in the mornings and afternoons for four days a week (M-Th). Eligibility is the completion of 1st grade.
-Regular Junior Lesson levels are now 1, 2, 3, & 4 rather than Beg, Int. & Adv. All levels are offered in the morning and afternoon (SPACE IS LIMITED). Eligibility is the completion of 2nd grade.
-Advanced Racing Tactics (ART) is now offered in the morning to take advantage of the typically stronger winds. (Must be approved by Head Instructor)
2008 EYC Educational Offerings:
Sailing Camp - Offered in the mornings (9:00 to 12:00) and afternoons (1:30 to 4:30) 4 days a week (M-Th) in 2 week sessions as an introductory course for any child that has completed 1st grade. Students will learn the basics of sailing and safety on the water. This is a prepatory course for the Regular Junior Program.
Level 1 Sailing - Offered in the mornings (9:00 to 12:00) and afternoon (1:30 to 4:30) 5 days a week in 2 week sessions for students that have completed 2nd grade. Students will learn sailing vocabulary, parts of the boat, parts of the sail, basic rigging, safety on the dock, finding the wind, some rules of the water, some sailing knots and more.
Level 2 Sailing - Offered in the mornings (9:00 to 12:00) and afternoon (1:30 to 4:30) 5 days a week in 2 week sessions for students that have completed 2nd grade & Level 1 Sailing (or by Instructor Approval). Students will expand their basic knowledge of sailing, tacking, jibing, 3 points of sail, boat handling, additional sailing knots and more.
Level 3 Sailing - Offered in the mornings (9:00 to 12:00) and afternoon (1:30 to 4:30) 5 days a week in 2 week sessions for students that have completed Level 2 Sailing. Students will learn advanced rigging, reading the water, the 6 points of sail, controlled jibe, sail trim, capsizing and person overboard techniques, docking, right-of-way rules, basic weather, addional knots and more.
Level 4 Sailing - Offered in the mornings (9:00 to 12:00) and afternoon (1:30 to 4:30) 5 days a week in 2 week sessions for students that have completed Level 3. Students will learn the physics of sailing, use of cunningham and boom vang, the flying jibe, anchoring, coiling and throwing lines, advanced boat handling, race course setting, sailing a race course, use of a spinnaker and more.
Advanced Racing Tactics (ART) - Offered in the mornings (9:00 to 12:00) 5 days a week in 2 week sessions as an advanced racing course for anyone that has completed the Advanced level requirments and is approved by the Head Instructor. Students will learn advanced racing tactics and rules, upwind and downwind tactics, mark rounding, current racing rules, starting strategies, race course strategies, team racing tactics and much more. Students with a serious interest in racing should seriously consider this course.
NEW - ADULT GROUP Sailing - Offered in the afternoons (1:30 to 4:30) 5 days a week in 1 week sessions for adults 16 years or older. Students will learn the basics of sailing in a fun and comfortable environment. Emphasis is placed on Safety and Boat Handling and management. The goal is to get an adult comfortable to take a boat out independantly in a confident and safe manner.
Private Lessons - Offered in the Afternoons and Weekends by appointment. The Instructor will assess and train the student(s) on sailing techniques needed, this is a great way to get alot of instruction in a short period of time. Take as an individual or small group The 2008 rates are:
The following rate structure is for a 3 hour lesson
-1 person - $75.00
-2 people - $105.00 ($52.50 per person)
-3 people - $135.00 ($45.00 per person)
-4 people - $165.00 ($41.25 per person)
